Greetings,

This is a random journey through photography featuring two very different photographers from two very different parts of the world. Namely Tom from the USA, and Ivy from the Philippines. Tom uses a Pentax K10D, a digital SLR camera, while Ivy is armed with a Canon A640 digital point and shoot. The subject matter from both will vary from anything such as ordinary household items to the extraordinary views of time seen local and abroad forever frozen via SD cards.

Along the way we will share our favorite photography related links and noteworthy inspiring photographers that we respect as we aspire to equal their skill. The equipment will change over time, as will our views on the world that we are naively trying to capture. Aside from some darkroom style lighting adjustments using Adobe Photoshop, all photos are unedited unless stated otherwise.

Thanks for stopping by,
Ivy & Tom

Sticky Web.

Sticky Web.Took some photos of plants at the zoo on my trip as well. This was in the Desert Dome. The webbing material looked like it would make a great composition.

Blue Dress.

blue-dress.jpgThis is my photogenic cousin. She looked so cute all dressed up that I couldn’t help myself but take a portrait of her. Someone said that you’re your own worst critic. I felt that the lighting isn’t spot on, that I could’ve done better. But the smile is priceless. So I just have to post it.

Going Down the Psychopath.

Going Down the Psychopath.During my brief visit to Desoto Bends, I went down a hiking trail to catch better glimpses of the wild life reserve. I got with in a stones throw of many creatures, a raccoon, some deer. But my sister, forever the worse one to bring on nature walks, wouldn’t stand still after signaling her to stop. Needless to say, she scared off the deer…three different times. So basically, all I shot was the trail itself and some fallen trees.

House.

house.jpgI was just taking pictures of my new house one late afternoon. I wasn’t really minding the lights or the shadows or any of the photography rules. I showed Tom this picture and surprisingly he likes it. He said it’s his favorite out of all I took. I wasn’t taking this picture seriously but I was with the others, so hmmm … what does that tell me? Probably, that I shouldn’t have put all that effort into my other pictures because it all looks like crap anyway. LOL

Weed.

Weed. There is nothing really special about this plant. Nothing really special about this town either.  With that being said, I really have nothing else to write. I used the default Green mode for the outing. This was shot along the railroad tracks in Blair, NE.

City Lights.

city-lights.jpgThis was my first attempt at motion. This was taken about 2-3 years ago. I was still learning how to use aperture and shutter speed. So it’s not really that good, but it’s good enough for an amature.

Primate Centerfold of the Month.

Primate of the Month.During the same trip I visited a distant cousin…evolutionarily speaking of course. This subject loved the camera, at least mine. Ignoring all the other zoo visitors and focusing all attention to my direction. Much appreciated I must say. The other animals aside from the parrot and an iguana were being a bit difficult even mocking me. For instance, there was this duckling that would be still until I moved the camera up to my eye then it would waddle away in a hurry. I’d lower the cam and it would settle down and the moment I picked up the cam again, it would waddle off. This went on for what had to have been 40 minutes till I finally gave up on the duckling. I just know it was toying with me as I am sure a bunch of the other animals were as well.

The Island

The Island. This picture was taken during a trip to my hometown, Cebu. I was in a ship and as the sun began to rise we passed this beautiful island. I just couldn’t resist to capture it.

Not So Mellow Yellow.

Not So Mellow Yellow Flowers.I noticed these while walking home with my camera and decided that the colors were rich enough to snap. Flowers normally aren’t my thing, I’ll take a picture of them if there is something interesting about them or if I need some for stock photography. Other than that, I usually don’t find it worth the sneezing attacks or the bee stings for that matter. I wanted to push my DA 40 f2.8 to the limit and see what detail could be picked up. It like most of my images on here is instantly cropped then reduced by fifty percent as a prep for posting. All developing is done in SilkyPix using the DNG FILM V2 color setting and the rest is decided on a photo by photo basis. Sometimes I opt for DNG Film V1. But those are the ones that offer the richness I am fond of from Fuji Film.
